Meme time…

I was tagged by Mimi over at Mimi writes… to take part in this meme, she tagged a whole lot of people and I noticed I was included over at Kim’s. Mimi was originally tagged by Travis, who created this – just as well, as a Mimi meme is too much of a mouthful :-)

Here are the instructions for Trav’s Staying Out Of The Dungeon Trivia Meme:
He said: A meme needs ‘structions.OK…here’s your ‘structions:
Your challenge, should you choose to accept it, is to:
1. Choose a category from one of these: Television, Stage & Screen, Nightly News, Publishing, Lives & Times, Music
2. Find 8 bits of trivia about your selected category
3. Be sure to let me know when…ok, if…you decide to play along so I can see what you come up with.
4. You may tag, or simply offer the meme for borrowing or stealing as you like.

So here we go. My chosen topic is Stage and Screen.

1 Tom Selleck was the original choice to play Indiana Jones. He turned the part down as he was too busy with ‘Magnum PI’ and it went to the lovely Harrison Ford.

2 Daniel Craig is the first actor to play James Bond, who is younger than the series itself.

3 Johnny Depp only had 169 words to learn in ‘Edward Scissorhands’.

4 Daniel Day Lewis and Russell Crowe were considered for the part of Aragorn in the ‘Lord of the Rings’ trilogy. Even though he had never read any of the books, Viggo Mortensen took the part, after being persuaded by his son who loved them.

5 ‘The Last Samurai’ was not only Ken Watanabe’s first American Film, it was also the first time he had spoken English in a film. Tom Cruise took no ‘up front’ salary for making this film and trained for two years before film making began, learning sword fighting and taking Japanese language lessons.

6 Bette Davis was the original choice for the lead role in ‘Mary Poppins’. Danny Kaye and Fred Astaire were considered for the role of Bert, which was played by Dick van Dyke (and his atrocious Cockney accent….)

6 In the Coen Brothers film, ‘Intolerable Cruelty’, George Clooney plays a talkative character who is vain about his teeth. In his previous Coen Brothers film, ‘O Brother, Where Art Thou?’, he plays a talkative character who is vain about his hair.

7 Only days before the role of Batman was cast in ‘Batman Begins’, eight actors were asked to audition for the part. The actors were Christian Bale, Joshua Jackson, Eion Bailey, Hugh Dancy, Billy Crudup, Cillian Murphy, Henry Cavill and Jake Gyllenhaal. While Bale won the part, Christopher Nolan liked Cillian Murphy’s audition so much, he cast him as Dr. Jonathan Crane/The Scarecrow.

8 Due to his part in ‘The Machinist’, Christian Bale was vastly underweight (about 120 pounds on his 6 foot+ frame) when he was under consideration for the part of Batman in ‘Batman Begins’. After being cast, he was told to become as “big as you could be” by Christopher Nolan, the director. Bale underwent a dietary and exercise regimen and ending up weighing about 220 pounds (about 40 pounds above his normal weight). It was decided that Bale had became too large (friends of his on the film’s crew dubbed him “Fatman”) and he quickly shed about 20 pounds to have leaner, more muscular frame.

So there you have it, 8 perfectly random facts (largely culled from the Internet Movie Database) and a wonderful excuse to have a look at some of my favourite movie actors. Yum!

I’m not going to tag anyone as it’s quite task compiling this list but if you’d like to have a go, please feel free!

While I’m at it catching up on tags and things, Dunn over at Simply Dunn, passed on this lovely award, which she received from Crissy, called the ‘Arte Y Pico’ award. Thank you so much, Dunn!

Arte Y Pico Award rules :

1. You have to pick 5 blogs that you consider deserve this award through creativity, design, interesting material, and also contributes to the blogger community, no matter of language.

2. Each award should have the name of the author with a link to their blog.

3. Award winners have to post the award with the name and link to the blog of the person who gave them the award.

4. Please include a link to the “Arte Y Pico” blog so that everyone will know where the award came from.

I would like to pass this on to

Astrid

Rhonda

Teresa

Pete

Paul

I’ve tried to find out what ‘Arte y Pico’ means but the nearest I can get from my translator widget is ‘art and tip’ (which makes no sense) I think it means like a tip of a mountain (the peak) so maybe it means ‘the peak of art’. I’d be glad for a good translation….

The weather here has been glorious, we had a wonderful weekend and I went to my first barbecue of the year on Sunday. It was a gorgeous afternoon and we played croquet which was great fun. Not quite like this game though.

I played tennis yesterday and today and have even been doing some gardening (not my forte, I must confess) but it is so wonderful to be outside in the warm sunshine. Needless to say, it is going to get cooler after today so I have been making the most of it – hence the lack of both bookbinding and blogging. I’m sure normal service will be resumed very soon.

‘Not’ the Oscars ceremony

funkyflowers.jpgfunkyflowers_closed.jpgfunkyflowers_open.jpg

It must be the Oscar’s ceremony which has inspired so many awards recently and just like buses, along come another batch all together!

Kim at laketrees has not only sent THE sweetest little award winging my way but has tagged me in the ‘Message in a Bottle’ meme. First, the award, how cute is this?

emilaloveaward.jpg

I love this award ‘so much’ too. I think it was originated by Emila at Emila’s Illustrated Blog and came to Kim via Mellanie at See it. Draw it. Share it. I’m going to pass it on to

Clara Teresa Dunn Astrid and Kylee

The ‘Message in the Bottle’ meme is quite complicated. Lots of instructions, so deep breath – here goes.

**** START COPY****
In a Bottle across the Blog Ocean. Leave a message in the sand or on the bottle. Write anything you wish. Be a pirate or a poet. Serious or silly. Anonymous or not. What message would you like to send out to the universe?
Mimi’s Message In a Bottle Meme
1. Compose a message to place in your virtual bottle.
2. Right click and SAVE the blank graphic below

3. Use a graphics program of your choice to place the message on the picture
4. Post the Message In a Bottle meme and your creation on your blog along with these rules
5. Tag a minimum of 5 bloggers – or your entire blogroll – to do the same. Notify them of the tag. Your virtual bottle will remain afloat in the blogosphere ocean for all blogernity (That’s a Mimism for blog + eternity.)

Mimi says: “ADD your site to the Mr. Linky list and place your blog’s name and url in a comment HERE TO LET ME KNOW YOU’VE COMPLETED THE MEME. I will add it to the master list of message bottles. Email mimiwrites2005 at yahoo.com if you have questions.”
Go HERE to see all the bottles floating in the blog ocean. The site is called Message In a Bottle.
***END COPY****

So basically, copy, paste and follow instructions…..hmm. Even I should be able to manage that…

In the spirit of irony, here’s my ‘Message in a Bottle”

So as you can see it’s getting hard to find people who haven’t already been tagged for this so I’m tagging anyone in my blogroll who fancies doing this one but particularly Struggling Writer, Pete at myGPScamera, Mike at The View From Here, Lord Likely or his friend Andy Fanton. As writers/Photoshop whizzes I’m dying to see what you come up with! Of course, it goes without saying only do this if you want to – no pressure!

A while back I resigned from my role as Founder over at Go! Smell the Flowers (pressure of work, artistic differences, leaving to spend more time with my family and other tried and tested excuses). I still pop over there on occasions, usually when I hear that things are kicking off again (which happens regularly – never a dull moment over there!) They are just in the throes of turning their blog into a full blown community with its 18 ‘founders’ (there were 20 but two, Drowsey Monkey and Olga the Travelling Bra, have also just resigned – see their blogs and GSTF for the reasons why). It’s a very lively place with humour, insults and serious debate flying around – every day brings several new posts and apart from never knowing what is coming up next – you also never know what the regular commentators are going to say next. Fur can fly and frequently does.

Jim & Em who started GSTF have given me a Flower Smeller badge, to read about this please go here. In their words :

‘This badge serves to acknowledge others who are, in their own way, smelling the flowers. They maybe regular visitors to this blog, one of the 18 founders blogs or someone that could contribute here who is yet to visit! Maybe they have recovered from an illness, written a book, made waves in the blogosphere, won the lottery, made a major shift in their life, won promotion, quit the rat race, raising a family, discovering their greatness and on it GO!s as more examples from around the world start to surface’.

flower_smeller.jpg

I shall have to ponder on who to recommend for one of these badges….they will need to be hardy souls :-)

Any volunteers?

And now as a reward for anyone who has made it this far (thank you) here is a video clip. This is the beautiful song ‘Falling Slowly’ which won the Oscar for best song at this years Oscars. It comes from the film ‘Once’ a small budget, Irish film which has won many prizes and plaudits – you may remember I raved about it some months ago. It is now out on DVD so there is no excuse not to see it. It is quite simply fab.

You make my day

crocus.jpgcrocus_closeda.jpgcrocus_open.jpg

The spring weather continues and this book uses a photograph that Number 1 son took in Bath last week. The crocuses are in full bloom but I notice there are still Autumn leaves amongst them It’s all very odd…

I had an unexpected visitor this evening, the doorbell rang and I opened it to find a vaguely familiar looking woman standing there saying ‘Hi Diane! Surprise!’ It was an old friend who I hadn’t seen for about 15 years. She is on holiday in Burton Bradstock – which is the village where Hive Beach which I showed you yesterday is. We were probably walking on the beach at the same time yesterday afternoon. What a small world it is.

I have been very lucky to receive this ‘ You Make my Day’ award from two people recently. Firstly, Rhonda at My Handbound Books was kind enough to pass it on to me after she received it from Sarah at littlepaperbird. Rhonda is one of the inspirational book artists I have met through the Book Arts Forum, which was set up by Jackie from TJ Bookarts is a wonderful resource for anyone with an interest in bookbinding. There are tutorials, discussion groups, advice and endless ideas and inspiration. Seeing Rhonda’s beautiful books always reminds me that I do tend to get stuck in rut and need to experiment more!

I was then lucky enough to receive it again yesterday from Susanne49 at Sue’s Daily Photos blog. Susanne actually has 5 photography blogs ranging from her photographs of Switzerland and Florida (where she used to live) to Charleston (where she lives now) to showcasing her wedding photography. She received the award from Barbara Gordon, another talented photographer.

The deal with this award is to pass it on to 5 other people who ‘Make Your Day’

  1. Write a post with links to 5 blogs that make your day
  2. Acknowledge the post of the award giver
  3. Tell the award winners that they’ve won by commenting on their blogs or emailing them.

I’m going to pass this on to

Teresa

These people have amazing blogs which I love reading and they make my day by leaving supportive, often funny and interesting comments on my blog. I could have named many more people but I had to choose just 5. To everyone else who takes time to drop in here and leave comments – a BIG thank you to you too – it’s much appreciated :-)

Vote for me or I’ll……make another book!

I really like this book. The cover is a Japanese Silk bookcloth from Falkiners. It is a rich red with a grey slub, so classy! I also love the paper inside. I think I bought this one from Paper Source when I was in Los Angeles, it has been waiting for the perfect companion and I think this is it.

Dear Kim over at Laketrees nominated me in three categories of the Bloggers Choice awards the other day. I am almost embarrassed to tell you the categories but as I would like your votes I shall :-) Unfortunately, they spelled my URL incorrectly and in correcting the error, they deleted Kim’s vote for me, so I am feeling like Billy No-Mates with no votes (instead of Billy One-Mate with one vote!) :-(

So all I can say is ‘Vote for me! Yay!’ :-)

My site was nominated for Best Blog Design! My site was nominated for Best Photography Blog!
My site was nominated for Hottest Mommy Blogger!

I played tennis this morning at the local tennis club. I joined a ‘ladies’ morning’ and it is more of a fun, coaching session than my usual doubles game. It probably involved a lot more running around so I really feel like it will do me good on a lot of levels, I will meet some new people, get fit and improve my tennis – result! It was raining when we started to play but by the time we had finished, the sun had come out and it had turned into a really nice day.

When I got home, I wandered around my garden for the first time in ages and was surprised to see how many signs there were that spring is approaching. Well, that or that global warming has finally hit Dorset. Lots of flowers were out – and I’m sure that apart from the snowdrops, they are early. I took some photographs to show you.

I’m actually feeling quite cheery today for the first time in ages. Long may it continue!

The longest post ever…

olivegreen.jpgolivegreen_closed.jpgolivegreen_open.jpg

I seem to be finally getting back into the swing of things. My room isn’t sorted out yet by a long way but at least there is space to work, so in between the bouts of tidying up, I can make the odd book or two.

I have been kindly mentioned in a couple of exceedingly long awards and link love New Years greetings over the last few weeks. The number of people mentioned in these lists is vast (over 300 links) and seems to be pretty much the same bunch of people so I am not going to repeat each list over and over again. I just hope that saying it once covers everyone -if not apologies, please go to the relevant links and check the original lists!

First Jon at El Gigante Verdoso passed the You Rock my Socks’ award to Jos over at NoDirectOn (not: NoDirection) (I think that’s right) (who has a very cool scrolling box to display his list) (and that’s far too many parentheses (brackets to you) for one sentence).

laurelhardy.gif

Next Mauro, over at 1 Million Love Messages awarded the 2007 Inspiring blogs award .

2007inspiringblog.jpg

Then Colin over at Life, awarded this one

bloggersoftheworld.jpg

and not only had a very neat scrolling box to display his list but repeated it for folk like me who can’t do scrolling boxes – over 300 links.

Then Blue Ribbon Bloggers had a Blogging Buddies award, which is this rather sweet photograph. Again they had a groovy scrolling box containing pretty much the same list, which I am very jealous I can’t reproduce.
