I have been cutting board for the last few days for the 20 books (and matching clam shell boxes). 14 precisely measured pieces of board for each set. 280 pieces altogether. I am having a day off today as my arm is starting to hurt a bit at the wrist and a slight twinge of tennis elbow – which is annoying as I haven’t even had the fun of a game of tennis. In between, I have been tweaking and cropping 90 images (web sized image and a thumbnail for each) for the web site I am working on. I’m starting to feel like a robot. Luckily, my friend who owns the Pierrepoint Gallery has just offered to cut the rest of the board on this amazing all-singing, all dancing glass/board/perspex cutter he has at the gallery. Hurrah!
Talking of all-dancing….(tenuous link alert!) A while back, I did a post about the search engine terms people use to find my web site. Here is the latest all time stats.
As you will notice, inexplicably ‘strawberry’ is still up there. I hope the 79 people searching for ‘frumpy’ were disappointed – cheek! Javier Bardem is climbing the charts – possibly due to the release of ‘Vicky Christina Barcelona’ in the UK (such a good film). There are still a lot of people looking for polar bear jokes but top spot goes to people searching for info on Sylvie Guillem. This is rather good news as I have just bought tickets to go and see Sylvie Guillem and Russell Maliphant (also a genius) in a new ballet ‘Eonnagata’ at Sadler’s Wells in June.
“Eonnagata tells the story of the Chevalier d’Éon, Charles de Beaumont – diplomat, writer, swordsman and a member of the King’s Secret, a network of spies under the control of Louis XV. De Beaumont was perhaps the first spy to use transvestitism in the furtherance of his duties and until the day he died his true gender was a source of constant speculation, even provoking public bets in the late 18th century.”
Wow.
Watch this clip and then you will get a small idea of how excited I am! (Plus it might attract another 1357 Sylvie fans to ‘Much of a muchness’ – which won’t hurt!) I have optimistically bought two tickets for the performance in June and am now holding auditions for the part of ‘ballet enthusiast and date for the night’. Form an orderly queue ;-)
Vodpod videos no longer available.
In complete contrast, this is the most hilarious thing I have seen on the TV in ages. ‘Red Nose Day‘ approaches – a huge charity fund raising day here in the UK organised by Comic Relief. As one of the events this year, a TV show called ‘Let’s Dance’ has lots of celebs and comedians re-creating famous dance routines in a competition which runs over several weeks. The comedian, Robert Webb, (half of ‘Mitchell and Webb’ of ‘Peep Show’ fame and the UK version of the ‘I’m a Mac, I’m a PC’ ads) performed the famous routine from ‘Flashdance’. Here is Robert as he usually is.
Here he is performing ‘Flashdance’.
I keep watching this and it makes me laugh every time. The rest of the competitors might as well throw in the towel now. It’s in the bag.
Milo news: I have bored Milo into submission! He was fed up of sitting at my feet while I worked one day so he got up, ran downstairs (a first)and then went through the dog flap all by himself (also a first), came back in through the dog flap, back up the stairs and lay down by my feet again. I knew he could do it and was just being stubborn. Glory be!! It’s a miracle!! Now just need to train him to make me a latte and I’m sorted….
Bummer, the Flashdance video won’t load for me…says it’s not available in my country or domain (hmmm…thought YouTube was universal)
I feel incredibly obtuse, but where does one go to find what search engine terms people use to get to one’s website?
Glad you hear you don’t have to cut up boards today! Hope you don’t get carpal tunnel from that repetitive work. Still sitting on the edge of my seat waiting for more news on this exciting, secret project of yours! 8)
That’s a nuisance – there are lots of versions on Youtube maybe a different one will work for you – I chose the BBC one maybe that’s the problem…I have put it on my Facebook page too – can you see it there?
WordPress show you all your stats on the dashboard page – no. of visitors, what they looked at, how they got there, what they clicked on, links etc. Brilliant service – all for free!
I can’t proceed too fast with the project as they are dithering about the front image now. May want to change it – and therefore the whole colour scheme – they want me to make a book and clamshell box using new image to help them decide which to go for. Bit of a bummer as I have already bought book cloth and leather to go with first image for the next 20 books – and the second image is entirely different…oops!
DP – I’m sure that TG would understand you loving Sylvie Guillem, she is so talented and gorgeous too – I love her! She is a wonderful athlete for her age too – quite inspiring.
As for Robert Webb, he is the only one I have watched on the show but I laughed so much, I might watch some more…..
Renny – troll? How funny that people are searching for that!
Hope you are having a great weekend too. :-)
I’ll have to go check out your FB page. I find FB to be rather annoying as it seems to randomly place notifications on my page, and I swear I’m not getting all updates from my friends.
I wonder if Blogger offers the same stats service as WordPress; I need to check. I have a couple of (seldom-updated) blogs on WordPress, but I’ve not spent enough time with them and WP to figure out what I can do on it.
Are they going to reimburse you for materials already purchased if they’re going to go changing their minds like that?
Oh, and I meant to say hooray for Milo for taking to the doggy-door (finally!). ;) Actually, it’s probably more of a congratulations to you for out-lasting him in the stubbornness department. LOL!
Teresa – I’m glad you got to see it. FB does pick and choose which notifications it tells you about. I’ve missed all sorts of stuff which I only noticed when I actually visited the friend’s page. I’ve tried cutting out the people I don’t particularly want to get notifications from and putting close friends on the list of people I do want news about but I still miss things.
Hopefully I will get reimbursed if they do go with the new colour scheme – they are still deciding… :-(
70s – didn’t see the Dirty Dancing – one must try and find it!
I had to Google Woodlands-in-Horton as I hadn’t heard of it. If it’s near Wimborne, then it’s about 40 minutes from me – my son used to go to school in Wimborne! Is that the place?
Hi
I am doing my family tree and found that my gt-gt grandfather was born there in 1811, trying to find out if he was one of the Wimborne lot that where down there at the time and big land owners of the time. I think he could be… I so have to get down there and have a root though parish records :-)
Last week I attended an AA meeting, and to my horror, every person present stood up and openly admitted to being an alcoholic. I’m not having a bunch of drunks repairing my car. I can only hope the RAC has more responsible employees.
70s – how exciting! If you do come down , do let me know we could get together!
Colin – hello! Nice to see you again. My arm is fine as I got my friend at the gallery to cut all the board for me – brilliant and so much less effort (at least for me!) He has a serious board/glass/perspex cutter which is really accurate too. I would be tempted to buy one if it wasn’t so huge. And expensive!
Ian – thanks. Had to read the joke twice before I got it – very good! I know a few friends who will enjoy that :-)
lol Diane .
.hilarious video!!!
reminds me of the le trocaderos dance company (male)
and hey Webb’s a pretty good dancer too…
it’s great to hear that you are really busy and congratulations on your success with your book and websites…whoo hoo!!!
must see Vicky Christina Barcelona..I loved her oscar speech!!
off to see slumdog millionaires today :)
the ballet looks amazing..I love the music and the minimalism …
Yes, that dance will win hands down…hate to ruin a good show
You have an interesting method of dog training…however Milo seems to be getting the idea. Let us know when he can bring you a latte please! I may just get a dog!
Hi DI, great vid, who needs TV?
Rather worryingly, I nearly fell off the sofa at the first read of that joke. My Sister’s mechanic works for the RAC, i’m e-mailing her now, despite DP’s doubts, she really IS WestieWorld, I knocked it together for her today.
Hope you got the project sorted. That’s just one of the reasons I tend to avoid commissioned work. (The other is that it’s frequently tedious stuff.) Glad you had someone else finish cutting the book board. At least you don’t have to worry about what colour that is.
David and I are getting close to our departure date for England. If I don’t get a reply to the note I left on the bookartsforum, I will just call you a couple of days before we plan to meet.
Bummer, the Flashdance video won’t load for me…says it’s not available in my country or domain (hmmm…thought YouTube was universal)

I love Sylvie Guillem – please don’t tell the TG. I also love Robert Webb doing the Flashdance routine – definitely don’t tell the TG!!!
[the original Flashdance sequence included a bloke dancing as a stand in apparently ………. fascinating]
Congrats you busy bee!
This search engine phrase is always fascinating. Mine this week is:
1: troll
2: norway+girls
3: oslo
4: Spring
5: Liv Ullman
Wishing you a happy end to your week :-)
DP – I’m sure that TG would understand you loving Sylvie Guillem, she is so talented and gorgeous too – I love her! She is a wonderful athlete for her age too – quite inspiring.

Hi D
I missed the Flash Dance one .. how brilliant .. saw the Dirty Dancing dance that was so funny too .. thanks for putting it up here :-)
I bet your arm is aching doing all that cutting . Is it all coming along ok??
[just a thought are you anywhere near Woodlands – in – Horton?]
Teresa – I’m glad you got to see it. FB does pick and choose which notifications it tells you about. I’ve missed all sorts of stuff which I only noticed when I actually visited the friend’s page. Hello D,
Hope you are well and that your arm has recovered from all of the cutting :)
Robert Webb was absolutely hilarious, it’s certainly one of the best I’ve seen in a while and I doubt that there will be any better lol
Enjoy the rest of the week,
Colin from Life and Free PC Security
Your wlog is fun.

I search for “frumpy” all the time and keep hitting you on Google and YouTube. Very annoying.
Any more comments like that my lad and it’ll be me who’s doing the hitting….. :-)
uh-oh
You may well worry…..

The Flashdance dance by Robert Webb was hilarious! He just didn’t care what anyone thought and did it purely for the fun of it. It was brilliant!
Hope you got the project sorted. That’s just one of the reasons I tend to avoid commissioned work. (The other is that it’s frequently tedious stuff.) Glad you had someone else finish cutting the book board. At least you don’t have to worry about what colour that is.

Loved “Flashdance”! Say hi to Milo.
