It has been like Christmas around here. Lovely people have been been sending lovely bloggy awards my way. It’s been quiet recently and then suddenly, like buses, three come along all at once.
an award which originated at Mamma Dawg’s. In her words
“Maybe they’ve got incredible, original content. Or they’re overflowing with creativity. Is it someone that helps you become a better blogger? Or a bloggy friend you know you can count on? Or maybe it’s someone who simply inspires you to be a better person… or someone else who sends you to the floor, laughing your ass off. Whatever the reason may be, I’m sure you know at least a couple of bloggers that kick ass. Well… why not tell ’em so?
Here’s how to send them some love:-
* Choose 5 bloggers that you feel are “Kick Ass Bloggers”
* Let ’em know in your post or via email, twitter or blog comments that they’ve received an award
* Share the love and link back to both the person who awarded you and back to http://www.mammadawg.com
* Hop on back to the Kick Ass Blogger Club HQ to sign Mr. Linky then pass it on!
To get codes click on the button above which will take you to KABC HQ – don’t forget to link up the person who nominated you for the Kick Ass Blogger Club. ”
OK. Done all that. My five ‘Kick Ass Bloggers’ are *drum roll*
Next up. What can I say? Those of you who are acquainted with Lord Likely and his Astonishing Adventures will probably have an inkling of what is to come. (Insert you own double entendre here). You can read all about his ‘Golden Cock of Excellence’ award here.
In his inimitable fashion, he explained why I was receiving this accolade thus:
“Lady Diane Aldred:supremely creative English rose Diane has been a regular reader of my wondrous journals, and for that she deserves honouring. Plus, with any luck the receipt of said award will endear her to me, and we shall wind up entwined in a passionate embrace, possibly whilst nude.”
In reply I just have to say – consider yourself endeared, we will have to see about the rest :-) The award itself is a little – how shall I put it? Ah yes, outré, for a wholesome blog such as this one (especially as some of my readers might be of a nervous disposition), so if you would like to see it, please click here. Now go and have a lie down.
Recovered? Right the next one arrived this evening courtesy of the lovely Diane CA @ DianeCA’s Metamorphoses.
She received this from Sandee @ Comedy Plus and from her lovely husband Renny @ Renny BA’s Terella, so she is doubly brilliant!
The rules for this award are:
* The winner can put the logo on his/her blog.
* Link to the person you received your award from.
* Nominate and link to at least 7 other blogs.
* Leave a message on the blogs of the people you have nominated.
Now you know how obedient I am, so here are my 7 brilliant blogs.
I watched the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympics this afternoon – well some of it – it went on for hours. It was quite awesome and putting aside any issues or disquiet that any one may have about the Chinese government’s policies or human rights record, there was no denying that they have set the new benchmark for opening ceremonies. London is going to struggle to get anywhere close to this stunning performance in 2012.
Here is a 30 second round up the BBC broadcast at the end of the 4 hour coverage this afternoon. The quality of this isn’t brilliant but if I find a better clip I will swap it over later.
This is the ad that the BBC has been running for the games. I love it.
And finally, here’s something that might give you an inkling of how successful the UK Olympic Games opening ceremony is likely to be. These are some UWE students (University of the West of England in Bristol) organising a charity balloon launch. Sigh. I despair.
The TG has been very worried about what our efforts for the opening ceremony are going to be like. I know we have the artistic and showmanship-like qualities to pull off something special but I fear it will be done on a budget. I suspect Morris Dancers, Morris Minors and a model of the Dome being paraded around a damp and unfinished stadium.
Weren’t the drummers fantastic at the beginning of yesterday’s ceremony and didn’t you want to kill the BBC commentators talking over the build up?! The TG nearly blew a blood vessel …….
DP – that made me laugh! Morris dancers and Morris MInors! I dread to think what a celebration of Britishness would include. And I suspect our Olympic stadia aren’t going to be a ptach on the Chinese ones. But then I don’t suppose we are going to be spending as much dosh as they did….
We could save money by not having any commentators at all, which will be a vast improvement on that farrago yesterday. They all were SO irritating.
scratchbags – you are most welcome. It was a good ad wasn’t it?
This is not only Christmas, but Easter, New Years Eve and a lot more – all in once.
Great awards and the very best: You really deserves them all as you are a great contribution in Blogsphere! Thanks for the Link Love!
About Beijing: Right now I am watching China against Norway in handball for women – very exciting. Norway won bronze medal last time. Now we are going for the Gold!
Congrats on the awards. That one, in particular, was very um… funny :)
We watched the opening ceremonies last night. I told my wife I felt a little funny because I really liked all the different outfits all the athletes were wearing. I’m getting soft in my old age :)
Renny – thank you, you are very kind!
I’m have been watching the badminton and the gymnastics – it’s all very exciting! Good luck in the handball!
SW – I know which one you mean. Thank goodness I didn’t have to pass that one on!!
I loved the opening ceremony – I thought it was fantastic – quite the best I’ve seen…
That balloon launch was very silly – I wonder if they had to do it again?
I shall dutifully obey the rules (hopefully tomorrow); I’ve got a Crosby, Stills, & Nash concert to prepare for this eve! (Young opted out, apparently…)
I absolutely love that BBC commercial! I’m completely enamored by the Olympics this year (stared open-mouthed at the torch lighting ceremony)!
Thanks again! (Humble bow)
ps: I spell my blog add with “neighborhood” instead of “neighbourhood”….just so you’re aware for linking purposes.
I LOVE Crosby, Stills, Nash (and especially) Young! I saw Crosby and Nash YEARS ago in Manchester but have never managed to see my real hero, Neil Young.
It should be a great concert – enjoy!
I think the Olympics this year are just so stylish – the awesome ceremony, the venues are magnificent – who would have thought?
Oops ! I have changed my anglicized spelling – sorry! It should link now :-)
It’s raining awards, and you are defiantly a kick ass blogger too hehehe!! I’m a Crosby Stills Nash and Young fan too….guess it dates us huh! Have fun!
Teresa – Yes, this passing on of awards is a pleasant way of acknowledging favourite blogs – I’m just glad I didn’t have to pass on Lord Likely’s epic award as I would have had to think very long and hard (it’s difficult to avoid double entendres!) about who to pass that one on to!
Poor students! They obviously put a lot of work into the balloon launch – what a disaster!
dianeca – thanks! CSNY are brilliant but Dave Crosby in particular had not aged well…he makes me feel old!
creechman – well, you could have had one too but I get the impression you don’t ‘do’ memes, so the applause is modestly appreciated :-)
That ad on BBC is really surprising to me. Shows the difference, I guess, between UK and US. We get nothing AT ALL like this here. Thanks for the peek at the other side of the pond…
Phew! That’s a relief!
That I’m alive ….and that SOMEONE reads my sidebar. Look at my blog stats – signifiacnt number approaching, May have to have a blog party. :-)
PS make a badge and you too can be in my sidebar….what am I saying? You are already in my sidebar – in my blogroll, you are probably just admiring your link….
hey Diane

nodding my head in agreement with the opening ceremony..
just too brilliant for words…
the only disappointment for me was seeing our Aussie ragbag /trackie uniforms….the only thing missing was their bloody thongs!!

shame…shame…shame…
*leaving now with my head drooping*
and
*my feet shuffling*
ps
497 hits to the big 100K…WHOO HOO!!!
Thank you, Kim 1 – you may have rag bag uniforms but you win where it counts – in the medal tables and on the sports field!
Party will have to wait until I get back…. :-)
Kim 2 – thank you, I try to ‘kick ass’ probably not often enough (see my next post!)

Thank You for the award Diane.*blushing* :) The Lord Monkey ad was brilliant!
Pete – you do indeed! My pleasure!

If anyone has asked my kids, they would have told them I kick ass…their asses, specifically. LOL!
Thank you for the award, Diane; I’m honored to be chosen by you of the most Kick-Ass-est blogger I know! ;)
“Golden Cock of Excellence”…LOL…I’m not going down that road.
The BBC commercail brought back some childhood memories of the Monkey King story. But I enjoyed the balloon releasing video the most!
It’s raining awards, and you are defiantly a kick ass blogger too hehehe!! I’m a Crosby Stills Nash and Young fan too….guess it dates us huh! Have fun!
I’ll just sit here in blog bleachers and clap for a while. :)

The short promos and ads the BBC produce are generally very good – I’ll post a couple of my favourites next time!
thanks for the nifty award. you deserve all accolades and stuff. :-)
I’d comment more, but too busy reading the litany otherwise known as your right side-bar.
Everything about you is always so… alive.
Phew! That’s a relief!

Margaret
