Much of a muchness

Things that make you go 'hmm'…

Things that go bump in the night….

Another of my photographs. This one is a sunset I took when out for a walk in Marina del Rey, California last year. It was gobsmackingly beautiful and my photograph could barely do it justice – but it does make a nice book! It’s actually a mirror image of the original photograph as I wanted the interesting part of the image to be on the front cover of the book so I flipped it in Photoshop. This is the original image.

I was woken by a noise early this morning, just as it was getting light. I thought it was my son whose bedroom is above mine but then I remembered he isn’t here at the moment, so I lay there, listening and a little apprehensive to say the least. I kept hearing scurrying noises and I eventually realized that the noises were coming from my roof space. I live in a 3 storey house and my bedroom is on the middle floor so the roof space is a long way from my room. When I went upstairs to my workroom I could hear scuttling footsteps and a tearing noise. (I think something is eating my loft insulation). I opened the hatch to the roof space and climbed on a chair and shone a torch in there and banged about a bit but I’m not tall enough to get in there or even see in there (and to be honest, I wasn’t sure I wanted to anyway!). It has been quiet ever since. Rats? Birds? A burglar? Aliens?

Eeeeek! Where are all the men when you need one? Or perhaps I should just get a pet?

Oh my God. That is so funny.

Who knew a tennis dame, under rain, could lay such claim?

It’s actually very sunny and mild at the moment…..sorry to ruin your little rhyme :-)

Beautiful last two books Di, Bridget likes! I prefer landscapes to flowers for book covers I think.

Can’t watch the video, connection lousy here.

Hey, keep safe Di .. get a dog for a pet maybe..? You have any neighbours close by to call upon in case of trouble??

    Glad you like the books.
Shame you can’t see the video it is very good!
I have neighbours but I’m not sure they would appreciate being woken up at the crack of dawn to deal with funny noises in my house…. :-)
I have a giant Maglite torch by my bed in case of power cuts – and it will do very nicely if anyone tried to break in :-)

The ad is priceless!! My dh wasn’t quite as amused…gee, wonder why? ;)

The pixar short is really cute; we recently saw it on the Ratatouille DVD. I love alien stories…been a Star Trek fan since the 60s. The short reminds me also of Douglas Adams’ Hitchhiker’s Guide books.

Neither dogs nor men do well against alien abductions. I’d try something with higher intelligence…maybe you can keep a pet dolphin or lab rat…they’re very smart! ;) Do you have vermins like raccoons or possums where you are? Maybe it was a squirrel looking for a good nesting site. I hope whatever it is is gone permanently.

Oh, and just make sure it’s not George Clooney trying to get in to sweep you off your feet before you bash him with a Maglite torch! :)

What a perfect book for this time of year when most of us are dreaming of the beach, if not California specifically.

I’d not seen the short before – I found it on Stumbleupon. It is hilarious! The facial expressions are priceless. I love science fiction too – Star Trek, Star Wars, Doctor Who, Torchwood – fantastic stuff.

As for my little visitor, it has been quiet all day but I am in my workroom and just heard the footsteps again….. I stood a chair on a coffee table and armed with my trusty Maglite, I had a bit of a look around in the roof space but I had obviously scared it off with all my clattering about. Just as well really, I’d have fallen off the chair if I’d have spotted anything :-)

I hadn’t thought of George trying to get in – maybe it’s him up in the loft?

Anyway, must go. I have just painstakingly cut two small pieces of board and put them down somewhere and can’t find them…..maybe my little critter has stolen them….. :-)

the gold compliments the sunset beautifully in this book…
    maybe it’s possums Diane..
    they can sound quite human..
loved the video….so funny when the larger alien took control.. :)

I’d be worried if it was possums – we don’t have them in the UK :-) Aren’t they big buggers? I suppose the nearest thing we have is badgers but they can’t climb – especially not 3 storeys.

As soon as Number 1 son reappears, I’m sending him in, armed with Maglite. As the roof space where noise is coming from is right over his bedroom, I’m sure he will agree!

Mind you for a big strapping 6′ 4″ lad he hates spiders and bugs, so is not much use on the scary creature front :-)

The Pixar short was cute. I hope the noise in you attic wasn’t too destructive.

I like the cover of this book and the original photograph even more. Nice job.

Saw the video today Di, very funny!! :)

Hope you never have to use that torch girl.

Paul – the sun is shining today so I might just go out and take some more photographs. I have LOADS already but I’m surprised at just how many aren’t suitable for book covers. I shall go out with just that in mind…..
Glad you liked the video :-)

Bridget – Glad you finally saw it, it made me laugh:-)
    All quiet last night…..

Love the photo on the book cover, that is so clever!! Never would have thought of that!!

It was finding the inkjet linen that gave me the idea. I’m very pleased with the results :-)

What a great video clip – I had no idea what was going to happen…..where do you find such things?!
The book cover is once again stunning. I have photoshop but have never got my head around it. May be worthwhile me looking into it now that I can transfer images onto my polymer clay work.
As for noises in the night – I remember my Mum & Dad once had squirrels in their loft! When we opened the loft hatch the confident little blighter just jumped out and hopped right down the stairs and out through the patio doors – it was so funny!

I find the video by spending far too much time surfing…..

I only know what I need to know on Photoshop – I just wish I knew more. watching my ex who was a photographer using Photoshop so expertly was amazing. I wish I could learn more….

Squirrels are a possibility. I’m waiting for big son to come home to investigate….they will have built a squirrel housing estate at this rate!
