The Book Mountain

I bought this paper a while ago and I’m not sure if it is meant to be a ‘seasonal’ paper but I think it looks like Santa’s hat so it can be classed as another Christmas book :)

Paul over at ‘Struggling Writer‘ was wondering yesterday where I stored my books. Well, that got me thinking and I got them all out, mainly to count them but also to tidy up the plastic storage boxes I keep them in. Here is a photograph of the books – all 77 of them – and the room I work in. I checked back and I have been making books since July 2007 – less than 6 months, so I was pleasantly surprised at how many there were, especially as I have sold quite a few and given others away as gifts!

The trees outside this conservatory are lime trees so I decided to call my business Limetree Studio. During the summer, on one of the few sunny days, I took a photograph of the tree and designed a banner for the web site I am building and I have just used the same image for some mini cards from my old friends at ‘Moo.com‘. They have just arrived and are really nice. I also bought a very sweet turquoise leather holder to keep them in when I am out and about, it is really cute.

I’m off to the hairdressers shortly. I keep trying to pluck up courage to have my hair cut shorter and into a different style but I chicken out whenever I get there and end up having the same old trim. I’m going to another Christmas party tonight, so it’s probably not the best time to be too adventurous anyway, so I shall come back looking exactly the same – just a bit neater and minus quite a few pounds – unfortunately not of the weight variety :)

    Hi Diane!
thanck you for the visit on my blog.
You have a lot of new and beautifull book!

Diane, I think it does not even look like Santa’s hat, but a very abstract Santa head indeed: the face is the white beetween the two hats in the row below. The red rectangle is a nose. Well, from this pictorial point of view given on the pictures :)

Let me tell you that you shouldn’t cut your hair shorter in winter. It’ll make you freeze on your neck all the time. Talking from experience ;-)

77 books – isn’t it a very good feeling to see all your oeuvre as a whole? BTW, why don’t you try http://en.dawanda.com as long as you don’t have your own shop set up? They even have a feature to integrate the dawanda-shop into your own website. I’m quite satisfied with them, the team is very dedicated, the cost is low and it’s gaining more and more popularity.

Good luck with the haircut :)

I wept with joy a little bit as I read that post. First of all, all those books together (77!) is a sight of beauty!

Then the view out your window is quite lovely.

And then, the new book. I hadn’t noticed the resemblance to Santa’s hat but immediately thought “I love that book” but now that you mention it, it does look like Santa’s hat!

Your books and business cards are stunning! Why not, since you are embarking on a new adventure with your career, change your hair as well? It is amazing how energizing a new do can be. I cut mine a year ago–love it. You know me from ilike.com

Clara – I like your new book – I tried to read the Portuguese (failed!) but I think you said it was made with paper you bought on your trip to Paris?Hope you had a great time and I’m glad you are back making books!

Astrid – it does feel like it’s supposed to be Santa in some shape or form doesn’t it?
I chickened out and as usual just had my hair trimmed. You are right – long hair is warm for the neck in winter – unless you tie it up as I have to do when I am working – otherwise it gets on my nerves!
I am looking into Etsy but I will check out Dawanda as well – why not both?! I have enough books :-)

SW – you inspired the book mountain and glad you enjoyed my view – it is very nice and one of the reasons I bought my house. That and the river which gives me a fright sometimes but is usually quiet and picturesque….

Karen – thank you for the kind words! I wil have my hair cut shorter sometime – I think I am getting a bit old for long flowing locks but it won’t be SHORT short just short-er. If you could see all the different hairstyles I have had over the years, it’s hilarious and might make a good future post….hmmm…..

Ascender – thanks for dropping in! I just checked out your blog – multi-talented doesn’t even begin to cover it :-)

I shall be spending lots of time exploring your work properly!

    Hi Jim&Em

Glad you like the name. You would not believe how long it took me to find a name which still had the domain names available :-)

Kim – hairdressers was a nightmare. He was very busy, kept me waiting 45 minutes which made me nearly late for my party and to add insult to injury, I thought my hair was still slightly damp when I got home but realised he had actually used too much styling stuff and my hair was just horribly greasy. No time to wash again so had to tie it up and go to party anyway. Not my best moment….

I don’t think there’s any thing worse than having a bad hair experience….
I’m happy to say that my daughter and I have found the perfect hairdresser and she comes to our place ….haha …we even sweep the floor up for her as she’s our bestest hairdresser in the whole world !!!

    Just what I need, I think, maybe it’s time for a change…
