Much of a muchness

Things that make you go 'hmm'…

100th post, birthdays and all manner of fun…

Well, here we are! My 100th post and it’s my birthday (I’m not going to tell what number that is – it is just too depressing and this is supposed to be a fun post!) I have made two books to celebrate.

These are very much me – complete self indulgences. I love these colours – vibrant, passionate and fun. Both books are embroidered and the second one has applique flowers on it too just for good measure – fabulous.

I have decided this is going to be a fun post so here is a video from YouTube which made me laugh. This bird has better rhythm than a lot of people I know. No names here but you know who you are!

and this is another Christine Lavin song which never fails to make me laugh out loud. And it’s so true..

My boys have come home for the weekend, so the house is a mess again and the fridge is full to bursting with food. They are both still asleep so I am making the most of the peace and quiet before the guitar playing starts competing with the drum ‘n’ base music from the other room! Utter chaos but I love it!

    Hi Julie

Lots more singing and dancing on my birthday? Not so far – boys are still asleep. I am tempted to go and wake them both up! I have just made lots of noise with a hairdryer but no joy….

    Hi BJ
Nice to see you here – come over for a bit of peace and quiet?! It’s much more sedate on this blog!

Thank you for the birthday wishes. That bird makes me bob up and down in time with the music whenever I watch it – it’s priceless! Glad you like my books too!

  9. GO! Smell the flowers November 4, 2007 at 11:48 am

    Hppy 100th Post Diane,

Sedat is good from time to time – we’re over here to Smell the flowers too :0)

    Keep it up! Flowers.

  10. GO! Smell the flowers November 4, 2007 at 11:49 am

Oooops – that would be sedate, not sedat which sounds like a cheap car.

  11. Diane November 4, 2007 at 11:56 am

Thank you Jim & Em, I must admit I puzzled a bit about ‘sedat’ – was checking out the keys on the keyboard to see what it might have been… then the second message arrived!

A ‘sedat’ could be a cross between a sedan and an estate car maybe…..

Happy birthday. Those books are great. It’simpressive how quickly you craft them. It’s 7:00 am here. I’ll comment more later.

  13. Diane November 4, 2007 at 12:14 pm

Thank you, SW, I expect your little girl has woken you up early! My big boys are still asleep at 12.15pm. They came home to spend my birthday with me – they have slept through half of it. Hold on I hear movement overhead….

  21. strugglingwriter November 4, 2007 at 7:28 pm

Diane I just watched that video and it was awesome. That bird can dance! I also found myself bobbing my head too. I wonder what that says about me?

  26. Diane November 5, 2007 at 11:57 am

SW – I think it shows you have been wearing your pirate costume too long and are developing an affinity with parrots! Only joking! I defy anyone to watch that bird dancing and not bob up and down – I know I do!
Boys got up eventually and we had a great day just hanging out together and then they took me to dinner last night. Love it!

Kim – Thank you SO much. It was a lovely, lovely day and I did like these books especially. Can’t believe I have found enough to say for 100 posts!

Drenka – thank you! You are very kind.
I never got the hang of crocheting, I think you are very clever to be able to make such lovely things. The Italian pattern books look really interesting…

Dunn – thank you! I was reading your last post and I am amazed at your remedy for stopping a persistant cough. We have used Vick since I was a child (my ex-husbands mother used to make him eat a spoonful – which must have been disgusting!) but never on the feet. Must try it. It will make your feet nice and soft too, I expect!

  27. cotojo November 5, 2007 at 2:44 pm

Belated Birthday Wishes and congrats on your 100th post too :)

Now I won’t ask if you danced along with the parrot lol. My parents had a macaw many years ago who would sing and dance, and he would scream to be let out on his stand to watch the kids coming home from school…he was a real character :)

Hope you had a wonderful day and that your week is great :)

    Colin

  28. Diane November 5, 2007 at 3:15 pm

Thank you so much, you are very kind!

Just watched the parrot again and had another bob along with him! I love it!

    Have a good week too…

  29. Soph November 5, 2007 at 4:41 pm

Congratulations on your 100th post! Those books look absolutely beautiful, I wish I was as creative as that. It would be so nice to be able to make something as special as that that I could actually then use for my writing, too. :] That parrot video is amazing!

  30. clara November 5, 2007 at 5:25 pm

Happy one-hundredth, my dear Diane! And congratulations on reaching your blog milestone, too.

    Ha-ha! I jest, I jest.

Many happy returns to you and your fine web-log!

  36. Diane November 6, 2007 at 3:48 pm

Justin – I did and I tried! Still made books though! Thank you for the birthday wishes…

Your Lordship – thank you. Your little jest is very amusing, you ought to write an humorous blog, I’m sure people would find it entertaining. What? You already do? I thought it was for real….

  37. Miriam Dellaperute November 6, 2007 at 7:02 pm

    Your books are beautiful!
Are they done a a book binders or do you do them?
How do you put the holes in the spine?
Thanks you for sharing your wonderful books with the rest of the world.
    Miriam

  38. Diane November 6, 2007 at 8:41 pm

    Hi Miriam!
Thank you. I make the books. I sew the signatures onto the ribbon. I use a scalpel or a exacto knife to cut the holes in the spine.

I enjoy sharing my books and am constantly surprised and thrilled my people’s interest in them!

  39. fishwithoutbicycle November 6, 2007 at 11:32 pm

  40. laketrees November 7, 2007 at 1:00 am

    haha Diane..
I’m sure you will find plenty to say for the next 100 posts too !!!!!

  41. Diane November 7, 2007 at 8:31 am

Thank you, Fish, your greetings are most welcome!

Kim – it is surprising how much there is to talk about when you stop and think about it. I suppose the trick is to do the stopping and thinking…. :)
