After my deckchair book I decided to try another fabric covered book and bought this mattress ticking. I remembered to line the fabric with Bondaweb this time, so had no glue problems. I wasn’t sure what to put inside the book but I found some blue linen napkins in a drawer which were the right shade of blue so I used one of those! I also decided to make the book larger than usual, it is A4 sized rather than the usual A5 size. I think it’s quite nautical somehow.
It was Hallowe’en last night and I was determined not to get caught unawares as I was last year. Last year, dozens of children knocked at my door, only to be told I had forgotten it was Hallowe’en and I had no sweets for them (I was on a diet – OK?) I had a large pack of mechanical pencils which I used to give the children in my class as rewards when I was doing my teaching practice, so I ended up in desperation giving them a pencil each. This year I bought a large bag of chocolate bars and waited. Not one child knocked at my door. The word had obviously gone out that I gave lousy treats. Still, to look on the bright side, I still have a large bag of chocolate bars …
This is my 98th post and as it is my birthday on Sunday, I have decided to pace myself and do my 100th post on my birthday, so it will be a double celebration! Who would have thought that I would have enough to say to fill 100 posts. Amazing. I shall have to try and make an extra special book for Sunday. It is a perfect excuse to be even more self indulgent than usual and only choose colours that I like. Not that I don’t normally do that anyway….

no idea what a mattress ticking is, but this book sure looks great! i expect it to lie on a gracile white nighttable beside the white embroidered canopy bed …
Diane, nautical is a good description for this one. Very nice. Happy birthday, in case I forget.
We got around 20 trick or treaters last year and probably only a handful this year. Slow year all around, I guess.
I would’ve liked getting a pencil, though :)
very classy Diane…..and it does have a nautical favour….
haha …pencils….they may never return LOL …..have fun eating the chocolate…..do you have special plans for your birthday?
ps I remember the mattress ticking well …my parent once owned a hotel and I remember seeing all of the striped mattresses in the rooms ready to be made up each morning :)….
I love your creativity (and the fact that you are a fellow scorpio)
Astrid- it would look nice in the setting you describe! The fabric is cotton and it’s used to cover mattresses. I’m not sure why it’s called ticking!
SW – thank you for the birthday wishes, I expect you will be engrossed in writing for NaNoWriMo on Sunday – 8000 words by then? I look forward to reading more however many you write! As for the pencil, I can send you a chocolate bar….
Kim – my boys are all appearing on my birthday so it will be lovely for us all to be together. As long as I don’t have to cook my birthday lunch….
Toadee – thank you! When is your birthday – soon or have you had it?
Happy Birthday in advance! :)
I like your books. They all have blank pages. Critics always love that.
Thank you!
Just think of all the lovely things you could fill them with…
Happy Birthday!
Thank you! I hope so!
