I’m showing you this book but even though it looks finished, it is still a work in progress. I searched high and low for some copper coloured ribbon as I thought that would look best but was unable to find any, so I went with a matching purple ribbon. It looks very ‘blah’ so as I have finally tracked down some copper coloured ribbon (which hopefully arrives in the morning), providing it does look better, I am going to change it over. I shall let you know what happens tomorrow…
I found a stamp which I was given as a gift many years ago and I thought that it would be nice to use it to sign all my books. It has my name written in Chinese and in English (it does occur to me I need to check it does really say my name and not some obscure Chinese swear word!) but it is very pretty and providing it does check out, I shall use it. I would be very grateful to hear from anyone who can shed some light on the Chinese calligraphy…
Now then it’s awards time again.
This award was started by Bob of Bobbarama fame. He says
”This award casts a spotlight on bloggers who are beginning to draw lotsa attention — the equivalent of a song with a bullet on Billboard’s Top 100 chart. Lotsa good posts. Lotsa good buzz. These bloggers are going places in a hurry.”
Colin over at ‘Life‘ blog very kindly awarded this to me and as he received seven awards yesterday, he is obviously very highly regarded and thus it is very kind of him to think of me.
I would like to pass this on to some blogs I have recently discovered which I like very much:
I also received this from lovely Kim over at Laketrees and PoeArtica.
I’m particularly pleased to get this award “as the ‘Shibumi’ award was originally created by Hawk and has a deep and profound meaning:
‘Shibumi is a Japanese term which used in the following context is a noun. Its meaning refers to a ‘particular aesthetic of simple, subtle, and unobtrusive beauty’ which can be applied to almost anything.’ “
I’d like to award this to these blogs which I think are particularly elegant to look at:
Now, from the sublime to the ridiculous, as they say! I was also featured on a rather different blog. The Pisstakers, a satirical blog, (“Daily Satire at it’s Best”) features ‘MyBlogLog Sunday’. I was featured in MyBlogLog Sunday 30. Apparently, every Sunday at the same time, they visit and take a snap shot of the last 10 blogs to visit their blog. Their review of my blog follows:
“Diane is to arts and crafts what Hannibal Lector is to human liver recipes – there seems to be no limit to her creativity. Paper, book-binding and “Paper, scissors, stone” it’s all there.”
Well, that just about says it all really. Pass me the Chianti….
Thanks for the award, Diane. My blog really has been growing in the past month, but I’m not really sure why. I guess people like funny stories about Frankenstein and silly maps.
I LOVE that stamp. That’s a great idea to use it on each book you make. I really like that idea.

Congratulations on your awards Diane and a nice selection of bloggers to pass them on to :)
It’s always nice to receive an award of any kind, but it is much nicer to hand them out to a variety of blogs and give them the recognition they deserve.
Have a great evening
SW – I just need to find out if the Chinese characters do in fact spell out Diane but I love the look of it and want to use it. My blog was growing really well until I went off to LA and then it dropped off again, so I am now building it up again. You can’t take your eye off the ball for a moment!
Colin – thank you again. It is a nice way to acknowledge blogs which one has enjoyed. There are some that I think are far too ‘serious’ to send an award to but I still enjoy them all the same – they have to content themselves with an appreciative comment every now and again!
Thanks so much Diane! You’re such a sweetie! It is nice to see more people visiting to read my venting :)
Aw! Thank you Diane, this is so nice of you!
what an interesting observation on your site ..I’ll have to pop over there to see what he has to say about laketrees :D
LOVE THIS BOOK…..
great patterns and colours…. great idea with the stamp….I have a chinese symbol which I used for my energy series and I also have one for Kim…I will have to look up one for laketrees……oh too many things to do and not enough hours in the day….
ps grats on your break out blogger award !!!!
Congratulations on your award. Shame I tainted your glory with a meagre spot on MBL Sunday! I have to admit, i was quite proud of my little analogy, and then blow me, Anthony Hopkins was interviewed on TV. Small world.
Cool, thanks Diane! I’m grateful for your recognition. Congrats on your award as well! The funny thing about this is that I came by earlier to breeze through and didn’t even scroll down! I just wanted to see the latest awesome book you made. Didn’t reali8ze it until you left me a comment.
Congratulations to the all of the award recipients!
Now about that shop you plan to open up…Christmas is coming, you know. :)
Kim _ thanks as usual! The Pisstakers web site is great fun – there is also a video of the MyBlogLog Sunday reviews on YouTube. I think you have to time it just right to be reviewed though! You can read all about it on their web site!
trumpingwallst-I hope you don’t think I was ungrateful…I was thrilled to find you had mentioned me! Your analogy was so ‘off the wall’ I burst out laughing. From very sedate bookbinding to cannibalism in one sentence – excellent! I also watched the video, it’s such a great idea! I shall have to time my visit to your blog every week! Thank you
wppeteej- you are very welcome! I love your photographs. You get such amazing images with your camera phone! Do you ever use a ‘proper’ camera? As for a shop, I am working on a web site ….watch this space for news…
Congratulations on the award! Enjoy
Thank you – and thank you for creating this lovely award. I enjoyed reading your blog very much. I also thought it was a very beautiful blog – I don’t normally like dark themes but yours works and looks beautiful. The photography is lovely too – I am off to Geoff Coleman’s images right now….!
thank you so much for the award that is so kind, but even better because now I have found your blog to read! You make some beautiful books, I love making books myself, but only have some basic skills. I love your colours.
I really enjoy reading your blog and it looks beautiful too!
You must post some photos of your books…
The Chinese stamp is SO COOL!! And, I love the warm colors of the bamboo one.
Congrats on the awards!
I have just had the stamp/seal checked out and it does indeed say ‘Diane’ in traditional Chinese characters, so I can use it…
I was also told about the simplified Chinese characters which say ‘Diane’. To me they looked even more complicated!
Hey diane, thanks for my award, I am honoured!
Your books are beautiful, I have bound a few of my own sketchbooks so I know first hand the effort that goes in to it. great fun though!
keep it up!
It’s my pleasure, I enjoy your blog very much.
Thanks, I’d like to see some of your sketchbooks, you should post photographs of them…
