When I was in Paper Source, I spotted that they sold ready made text blocks which just needed ‘casing in’ (attaching to a cover). I bought some as I thought it would be worth experimenting with them. I had this idea and spent most of yesterday working out how to put it into practice. It was SO complicated!
This is an address book insert and I wanted to do something slightly different from the traditional type of book binding. It’s a very dull day today and it is really difficult to photograph the outside of the book. The ribbon looks much more orange than the apricot coloured book cloth in my images – it’s not, and the design on the grey paper is very subtle so in the dull light, isn’t showing up very well. I may try and get some better shots if the light improves later. Anyway, it gives you an idea of what I was aiming for. I think I achieved it but then I’m not so sure it was such a good idea in the first place!
Back to the drawing board!

Hi Diane!
Such a great idea. Very nice adress book. Beautiful realy.
I guess i gona copy you design book. can i?
I realy love yours books and the choice you make to the papers.
Clara
That binding was very cool. I’m very sleepy right now, so I don’t have much else to say except I like this new design.
Professional yet cheerful is how us flowers would describe it!
Folks in Dubai would love your stuff! Original and not mass produced – great!
Clara – please do but be warned, it gave me a headache trying to work it out and I still wasted so much paper when I made mistakes!
SW – I’m not surprised you are tired after your marathon drive. Hope it went OK. Glad you like the book too.
Jim&Em – Glad you like it – and glad Angry, Gary and GIC don’t read my blog!
That is so NEAT! I love the angle made from the triangle. =)
I’m not going to rush to make more of this particular book as it made my brain hurt… but I am going to try some other ideas I have for different bindings which hopefully won’t be so complicated!
very unusual Diane……I really like it……
the combination of orange and purple really works too….
nice contrast with the subtlety of the cover and the vibrant orange dots…….
I knew it was a rubbish photograph! It’s actually grey with an orange and red design on it. The book cloth is apricot and the ribbon is a shade or so darker!
It’s sunnier to day, I might try and get a better shot of it – where’s my photographer boyfriend when you need him!
I like your experiment, Diane. Have I mentioned how much I like how you combine papers?
Clara
P.S. I’ve just added you to my Blog list. Been meaning to do this for a while, and I finally remembered!
Thank you for that! I get half the fun from choosing which papers go together, I love it that you can put two really different patterns together and they just ‘zing’ off each other!
Thanks for adding me – you have been on mine for a while but I spelled you wrong! I missed off the first ‘e’ in ‘Asheville’ – sorry!
looks like a very interesting idea
Thanks, is interesting another word for complicated? If it is I agree with you!
I made one similar to this for a book swap, and you are right! It is HARD! I stood around scratching my head a lot while trying to figure out how to make all the angles work. In the end, it worked out *ok* but I’m not dying to make another one yet! :)
Yes, I agree, I think this is going to be a one off!
