Much of a muchness

Things that make you go 'hmm'…

There are sketchbooks and then there are sketchbooks…

I’m on a roll and this is the next one in the California series. The paper is hand printed and there is a maker’s mark on the paper I used for the inside, which I didn’t notice until I came to stick the paper in. I actually don’t mind it – it makes it more ‘authentic’ somehow. The inside paper is a fairly heavyweight cartridge paper so it makes a nice sketch book.
I read a blog written by an illustrator called Danny Gregory which is great fun and always has lots to read and explore. His latest post is a video he made to show off a giant sketch book he was sent by Art-Alternatives, you can watch it here

Vodpod videos no longer available.

Now that’s what I call a sketch book….

Although even that is put firmly in the shade by this little number

Giant Sketch

Edition: 20 hand signed and numbered, plus artist proofs
Materials: 4000 sheets of recycled paper bound in black buckram

This multi functional piece is to be used as a seat or a side table,
with endless space for sketching and doodling. H 18 -1/4″ x W 9-1/8″ x L 11-5/8″

This is another one Danny found on the Rob Teeters website. How amazing is that?

Nice work as always. To me it looks like a good book to write recipes in or to tape photographs to the pages.

You have mentioned you’re tired, but you haven’t wasted time in making these books.

I’m tired when I wake at 3am and am then wide awake for 3 hours, doze off again – and then have to get up at 7am to take my son to work – the sooner he buys a car the better!

I manage to have lots of energy during the day and then collapse in the evenings so at least I am getting lots done!

I hope you are feeling better.

That would be rough. I’m feeling OK mostly. Every now and then I think about my Grandmother and feel sad, but otherwise I’m doing ok.

It helps that I have a little daughter that screams “Dadda’s Home!” when I get home from work.

Renny – thank you, you make me blush!

Paperseed – a Paper Source paper – very nice but as it is handmade it has quite a lot of imperfections (smudges!) I do like it though and I made sure when I bought papers this time they all came in pairs!

Kim – I think you might get tired carrying those sketch books around. Much better to have one of mine…. ;-)

It’s jet lag I think. I almost slept through the night last night but I had left my mobile phone by my bed and someone called me (wrong number!) at 2.50am. Aaagh!!
Did get back to sleep though, thank goodness!

Hi there, I’m not sure which you are talking about – and unfortunately I don’t know the prices of any of these sketch books! The first one is one I made – not for sale yet (but will be soon) the one in the video is from Art-Alternatives (link above) the last one is from the Rob Teeters web site, again, link above! Hope this helps…
