Much of a muchness

Things that make you go 'hmm'…

Wish you were here…

Well, here I am, firmly settled in the lap of luxury in Claire and Colin’s apartment in Marina del Rey. It is fab. I hit the ground running and went to an art exhibition opening the evening I arrived, even though my body was saying ‘It’s 5 in the morning!’ Needless to say, I made it to bed at 10pm and then woke at 3am. Jet lag is such a pain but I am determined it is not going to get me down.

Last night was a real treat. We went to the Greek Theatre in LA, an open air theatre to see a concert featuring Ziggy Marley (Bob’s son) and with India.Arie headlining. We went with Claire’s sister, Julia Fordham who is a successful singer/songwriter and I have been an admirer of her music for many years and have all her CD’s. You can read about her and listen to her music on her web site but here is a sample. This is the title track from her album ‘Concrete Love’ and she duets with India.Arie

Claire and Julia are such a talented pair. Claire has written a book about her experiences when she first moved to LA to be with Julia. Julia was invited to many swanky Hollywood parties and events and the invitations were always addressed to ‘Julia Fordham plus one’ and she always took Claire with her. Hence the title of Claire’s book ‘Plus One – A Year in the Life of a Hollywood Nobody’. (Available from Amazon and all good book stores….)

It’s hilarious, and I feel that I have lived this book as I read the very first draft, have lived through the trials and tribulations of getting it published and I am mentioned in the list of ‘I would like to thank…’ people at the start of the book. Probably the one and only time I will get mentioned in a book, I might add, so I am particularly fond of it! Claire is now working on getting it made into a movie so it is all very exciting.

    Hi Diane,

LA sounds great – best way to beat jet lag is to party through it! You go girl!

The book looks fantastic and when we are back in Dubai, I will order it. Jim and I are going through the same trials getting our book to publishers attention at the moment – after a year of writing it, it is heartbreaking for someone to sa no to your baby!! But we know that someone will like it.

Good on Claire for persevering. Love the dog in glasses! Lovely fella.

    Have a great trip.

    Em

It is 4.30am and I have been awake for an hour or so…such a drag…and I’ve been told it is worse when going back to the UK – travelling west to east. Joy.

I’m determined to shake this off as soon as possible and not let it spoil my days!

Glad you like the music and book. You can get both from Amazon.com.

I’m loving the thought of Catherine Zeta Jones playing me in a movie!

Diane, it sounds like you had a great time. Ziggy Marley and India.Arie, wow!

Also, I stopped by Claire’s website the other week when you linked to it and saw her performance on Craig Ferguson. She seemed very nice and funny.

I hope you can recover from the jetlag quickly!

Hey. I was curious, how are you embedding the mp3 above in the page? I know you’re using snap.com when you roll over it, but what software are you using for the mp3 player?

If you could write me back: tangent@mrtangent.com I’d appreciate it! I might not check the follow-ups, so if you could that’d be great.
