Much of a muchness

Things that make you go 'hmm'…

So long and thanks for all the fish…

…well not fish, but awards from very kind fellow bloggers! (I hope you recognised the quote from ‘A Hitchiker’s Guide to the Galaxy’ otherwise that was a very odd title for this post!) I am off to Los Angeles tomorrow evening so, I will only be posting sporadically for a couple of weeks. I am hoping that LaLaLand with provide some rich pickings for future posts. We shall see.

My friends, Claire and Colin, have been arranging all manner of socializing for my visit so I am going to be having a ball and hopefully playing lots of tennis in warm sunshine. This is a photo of Claire and I taken at a party (hence twinkly clothes!), we do know how to party and have been doing it together for many years!

This is the beach at Santa Monica. I’m going to hate it :-)

Now for the awards.

Kim at Laketrees has very kindly given me this

fres-floydcraigbrian.jpg

In her words “for her wonderful work…and her exuberant energy”. I could do with some exuberant energy at the moment, I am exhausted!

I am passing it on to

The Struggling Writer who has been very supportive of my work and needs some of my ‘exuberant energy’ to cope with his very cute daughter! He still manages to produce a funny, highly readable and instructive blog!

Eurekos I am awarding this to him because I hear on the news today that Belgium is having a bit of an identity crisis at the moment. I think that this Belgian blogger who always has something funny or informative to say is probably the most together thing in the country!

I also got a ‘You make me smile’ award from Cotojo on his ‘Life’ blog. Amongst other interesting things, he is doing sterling work keeping us up to date on developments in the Madeleine McCann situation.

So I am now passing this on to

Drowseymonkey whose philosophy to encourage us to “Do something good today ~ Or don’t do something bad ~ As long as you do it with humour” sounds OK by me!

And I’m going to give this to ‘Go! Smell the Flowers’.

I’m not sure about the ethics or otherwise, of making an award to a blog I have very recently started to write for, but I think this award should go to Jim and Em who started ‘Go! Smell the Flowers’ and also to their readers whose comments make me laugh!

So, job done! I’m off to pack and finish getting ready for my holiday.

Are we there yet?

Nice pictures Diane. Don’t party too much, you need your energy to make all of those great books with the paper you’re going to buy.

Thank you so much for the award. It’s really nice to know someone is enjoying reading what I write.

Also, I totally “got” the title of this post.

    Thanks you so much again.

    You are very welcome!

Maybe I should have made a competition out of guessing where the quote came from – curses! Too late!

  3. GO Smell the flowers! September 26, 2007 at 5:06 pm

Blimey! We are truly honoured with this award and for your bravery in getting amongst it over at flowers where there is more to our posts than meet the eye as you have well found out with getting into the spirit of it all….

We look forward to seeing the odd LA post pop up as we have a travel section and of course, an stories that encourage other buds to share their experiences…

So, safe trip, BIG thanks again and GO! Smell those flowers…

    Jim, Em & Crew!

I play like Justine Henin….ha! If only! You are right, it is a neat text wrap!

  7. Diane September 27, 2007 at 6:51 am

    Thank you, Kim

Just had my usual ‘fix’ over at Laketrees (and PoeArtica today) and finished the competition questions. Thanks for posting early..you are a sweetie!

I’ll be posting from LA and all being well, keeping in touch, so (bursting into song) “California, here I come….!”)

  8. Creechman September 27, 2007 at 10:00 pm

My favorite rising female tennis player is Ana Ivanovic. I think I’m off the Sharapova bandwagon because she’s not versatile enough. Oh, we critics.

  9. DrowseyMonkey September 27, 2007 at 10:10 pm

Thanks so much Diane! I’m very flattered and shall place it on my blog and pass it along as well. Thanks also for the kind comments on my post. Enjoy LA! Can’t wait to hear about your travels.

  10. Diane September 27, 2007 at 10:26 pm

My son worked at Wimbledon this year and was very taken with Ana Ivanovic too…

…I wouldn’t mind playing like any of them…even Sharapova!

  11. Diane September 27, 2007 at 10:29 pm

Drowseymonkey, you are very welcome. This is my last night in the UK, I fly out tomorrow!

  12. Creechman September 29, 2007 at 11:29 pm

She’s on the plane, in the hotel room, scrambling for one of those little wine bottles.

Don’t worry about Diane on vacation. I’ll just step in for her here.

“Dear Diane, on the incipient beginning of a relationship you’ll treasure through life-long still days, you had to go on vacation.”

I’ve been sleeping with Claire for twenty-five years. With this time together you both have, perhaps she’ll come clean

Don’t allow me to stir up the whole blonde vs. brunette thing. And we know who always wins. Hello? Can you say Jane Seymour?

Fine, have a good time in Southern California. Don’t worry about the rest of us working “blokes.”

I demand a tennis win over someone strong. Knock Hingis out. She’s so over.

  13. Diane September 29, 2007 at 11:49 pm

    Dear Creechman

I am in LA, the sun is shining, the weather is sweet, makes you want to move your dancing feet (as Finlay Quaye would say) Jet lagged but hanging on in there.

    Claire denies everything I’m afraid.
And we don’t know who wins the blonde vs brunette thing.
And I can say Jane Seymour – there I just said it.

    As for tennis…tomorrow.

  14. Creechman September 30, 2007 at 4:19 pm

Diane must be having a great time, because she’s not blogging.

I’m thinking, sand, sun, and cups with little umbrellas sticking out of them.

Fine, Diane. Fine. The rest of us will merely go to work tomorrow.

  15. hotdogman October 5, 2007 at 10:29 pm

That beach looks tough to take. I don’t know if I could stand vacationing there.

Our beach season is FINITO is ole MA.

    I am jealous!

  16. Diane October 5, 2007 at 11:51 pm

The weather here is fantastic – cloudless blue skies and warm, even hot sunshine. It is blissful. I am making the most of it before heading back to the UK on Tuesday where it is grey, drizzly and cold. Marvellous. I’m sure there are some advantages to living in the UK but at the moment I am hard pressed to think of them!
