Fireworks

This paper is called ‘Fireworks’ – a Japanese Chiyogami paper. I have had it for a while but couldn’t find a suitable paper to pair it with. I’m not entirely convinced by the one I chose. The black and gold chequer board pattern picks out the black and gold in the fireworks pattern so I think it just about works. My son, who has a very good eye for design and such things is not so sure. I’d be interested to see what you think…
I have discovered a couple of wonderful web sites for bookbinding supplies. Unfortunately for me, both in the USA. A shop called Hollanders in Ann Arbor, Michigan has a beautiful web site selling bookbinding materials and good range of paper and fortunately, ships internationally. Also Aiko’s Art Materials in Chicago has a wonderful selection of decorative papers. I am on the hunt for places closer to home so I will keep you posted if I find any good sources of decorative paper in the UK (other than my favourite haunt Falkiners) and would be pleased to hear from you if you know of any other gems in your neighbourhood.

no resources within the U.K., I’m afraid, but modulor.de has a nice range of italian papiers, and have a look at http://papier-royaal.nl, they have a huge range of paper, too.
My boyfriend brought me some stuff from Aiko’s some weeks ago – marvelous japanese book cloth!
I have just checked them out. You are right, both are very good but papier-royaal.nl has a huge range doesn’t it? Amazing. I could spend many a happy hour (and probably a lot of money) on their web site! I expect shipping will be much cheaper too. Thanks for that!

the fireworks paper is certainly sensational Diane….the checker board makes a striking contrast to the circular shapes and also harmonizes with the gold fireworks and black background (as you mentioned)……

I keep looking at it and I think it does work. Just about! The pink one I made next is much more ‘in your face’ and I like it better!
It would be pretty expensive to ship from Australia I guess but thanks for the thought! I am hoping to come to Australia at some point to visit friends. It would be nice to buy paper that I couldn’t buy in Europe.
