Much of a muchness

Things that make you go 'hmm'…

Inspirational calligraphy

I was researching calligraphy links and came across these videos on Youtube. The first is John deCollibus demonstrating using a pointed pen and the second is Murat Unver. I am suitably awestruck by the dexterity, penmanship and skill demonstrated by these calligraphers. Their work is exquisite. It makes me realise that there is no substitute for practice – and I need lots!

In this third video, Murat Unver demonstrates by writing upside down – and still produces better results than I do.

Oh well, back to the drawing board.

Interesting to see that these professional calligraphers take such a slow steady approach to their writing. These were neat to watch.

What amazes me is the sureness of hand, the confidence. I work slowly but until I get ‘into the zone’ the work doesn’t really flow. And even when it does, the results aren’t a patch on the work these guys produce! See my previous calligraphy posts for examples of my efforts!
