I’m off – again!

July 5, 2008

I am exhausted, a wreck, wrung out, I am drained. I have just finished watching the Wimbledon Men’s Final complete with rain breaks, several complete turnaround of fortunes, complaints from Texas about the organisation and weather (you know who you are) and finally a stunning victory by Rafael Nadal after an awesome and tightly contested match. A classic, classic match. I was torn as to who I wanted to win, I like them both so much but there was a wonderful winner in Rafael Nadal. Spain is on a roll this year…

And very gracious in defeat, he so nearly won – and he will be back, my hero, Roger Federer.

I must also mention, a young lady who won the Wimbledon Girls’ Singles title, Laura Robson – A BRIT!! Who would have thought. 14 years old and already carrying the hopes of an entire nation….poor thing!

So Wimbledon is over – what shall I do? Make some books maybe? I am dying to get back to doing something creative – at least until the Olympics start…. However, my #2 son graduates from university this week so we are off to Leeds for a few days. Before I go, I thought that I would post a few bits and pieces I have come across while roaming around the internet. This first, is a cool music video. Those of you who are Mac users will recognise the OS X desktop and marvel at how they did this…

I am desperate to see the movie WALL.E which doesn’t come out in the UK until 18th July but here is the trailer I found on Youtube.

and this is a preview of the Pixar short which precedes the film

and finally for the mathematically inclined, some pie charts…

This one is a depiction of things Rick Astley wouldn’t do…

Bye for now. I am off to be the proudest mum in the country. Expect much boasting and fab photos when I get back…

Paul – I will do my best! It will be lovely to spend time with both my gorgeous sons – and my ex :-/
The pie charts are fun aren’t they!

Creechman – she is very mature for her age. Apparently, she invited Marat Safin to the Winner’s ball (and who wouldn’t!!!!) but he sent a very sweet letter saying he wasn’t able to be there! Aim high I say….

70steen – Wall.E is getting such good reviews, I’m dying to see it.
I am a very proud mum indeed. Just need some nice weather….I haven’t got a summer posh coat so if it rains I’m going to get very wet…..

You have a Paulo Coelho’s blog link here
Did you know Paulo Coelho is probably the WORST Brazilian writer? He really sells lots of books and he is the most famous Brazilian writer around the world, but…

But all the critics HATE HIM.
And 90% of people who has more than two neurons too.

    THE GREAT BRAZILIAN WRITERS:
Machado de Assis – No Brazilian writer is more fascinating than Machado de Assis (The Posthumous Memoirs of Bras Cubas, also known in English as Epitaph for a Small Winner; Quincas Borba, also known in English as Philosopher or Dog?)
Joao Guimaraes Rosa (The Devil to Pay in the Backlands)

DP – being quoted on a prestigious blog like this? Of course it’s good :-D

Lili – well, thanks for that! I have read a couple of his books and must confess, as an avid reader with more than two neurons, I rather enjoyed them! However, I am always open to suggestions and will definitely check out your recommendations! :-)

burntmaze – it was fabulous! I wanted it to end in a draw as it didn’t seem fair that either should win, they both played so well, but on the day, I suppose Nadal just edged it. Quite stunning….

Dear Diane, you always manage to crack me up! Just trying to sneak in some blog reading between laundry and mail sorting (2 weeks’ worth can be a LOT of mail), and I’m glad I came here. The pie charts really made me laugh. ;)

I was so sad to see Federer lose. I much prefer him over Nadal because he doesn’t do the loud grunts. I stopped watching tennis (women’s anyway) for years because I couldn’t stand Monica Seles’ screams. And also, Federer is so darned good looking *grin* and seems like such a gracious and sweet guy overall, not just in losing.
